Effect of pollution load reduction on water quality in rural lakes in the shallow hill water network area

Abstract There is poor water environment quality in rural lakes the shallow hill network area north of Han River on Chinese Jianghan Plain due to their hydrodynamic conditions. We herein selected ten typical simulate improvement. The and models were built based MIKE21, while simulation compared year-round trends lake current planning year, demonstrated possibility recharging from backbone River–Three Inland Rivers networks. results show that has improved significantly after pollution control, with an improvement rate more than 70%. Pollution interception management are particularly successful for improving lakes. replenishment river could enhance fluidity but cannot eliminate total phosphorus (TP) risk. Therefore, relatively closed bodies hilly area, intercept control key controlling TP, taking measures such as increasing conditions summer will be a efficient approach improve quality.
